. a terror plot has been foiled on u.s. soil targeting embassies here in d.c. the justice department is accusing iranian agents of plotting to assassinate the saudi ambassador to the united states. >> two people have been charged in this case. news 4's brian mooar joins us live from capitol hill with more on this breaking news. brian, how much do we know? >> reporter: what we know in the indictment which has just been unsealed, let me tell you, it's chilling. the plot was to unfold here in the nation's capital at a well-known restaurant which isn't named but attended frequently by the ambassador to the united states from saudi arabia. as well as numerous u.s. members of congress. one of the plotters was supposedly told that if this bombing took place in this restaurant, then more than 100 people could be injured or killed. he supposedly let loose with an expletive and said that so be it, that's what has to be done. we do know that one of the suspects is being held in new york at this hour. he was arrested last month. while going from mexico back to the united states. apparently what

ruling in the case is expected soon. a judge is now deciding whether crime scene photos can be used by lawyers in opening statements. megan mcgrath has the latest. >> reporter: it was a gruesome crime. janna murray was stabbed and blungeened to death, all indications are that she put up a fight. prosecutors have graphic photos that they want to show to the jury during the opening statement. one is of murray dead inside the store and also a picture of the accused brittany norwood at the crime scene. while prosecutors argue that the photographs are key to their opening statement, the defense says their use at the start of the trial would be prejudicial to their client. as the judge ponders the arguments, jury selection resumed. the process is taking longer than expected. the problem, pretrial publicity surrounding the case. when asked if they knew about the crime, the overwhelming majority of perspective jurors stood up. to ensure an impartial jury, the judge is taking each potential juror one by one into chambers to question them further about their knowledge and their opinions. this

to blow up a plane on christmas '09 in his underwear. abulmutallab called the u.s. a cancer. he also claimed that radical islamic cleric al alawki was still alive. he pleaded guilty to eight charges including conspiracy to commit terrorism. he could face life in prison. >>> it is a no-go. new jersey governor chrissisty sa -- chris christie will not run for the nomination of president. outpouring of public and private appeals caused the governor to reconsider his initial decision not to run. now he says he's thought it over but he doesn't feel the time is right. steve handelsman has the story. >> reporter: chris christie said he decided last night to stick to his decision and not run for president. >> so, new jersey, whether you like it or not you are stuck with me. >> reporter: loyalty to his state the governor said, finishing his first term that mattered most. >> for me, the answer was never anything but no. >> reporter: but republican donors begged christie to reconsider. so he says that he got a green light from his wife and kids and did look into running in iowa and new hampshire

. ready or not, we are ready to see the first snow flakes of the season. >> doug kammerer joins us live from the storm center. you have our attention, doug. >> that's the thing. it's going to grab a lot of people's attention when you talk snow in october. don't worry about the snow, it's not going to be a big problem. flakes in a couple areas. the cold and rain is going to be the story on saturday. we are in for nasty weather. live doppler radar is not showing too much in the way of rain across the area. a few more in southern maryland. we have a frontal boundary that is draped across our area. showers in the north to pennsylvania and the west into kentucky. we have rain to go. shower variety throughout the rest of the evening hours from time-to-time. not too bad out there. the temperatures, look at this, 63 right now with winds south-southwest at 5 miles per hour. 52 in hagerstown. 75 in fredericksburg. that's the cold front that will make its way down here. cool air, if not cold air behind it. 55 at 9:00 tonight. waking up to temperatures in the low 40s. that's in the district. we hav

been cold out there. much colder than we are used to this time of year. definitely needed to bundle up as you left the house this morning. folks wearing sweaters. some of them, their winter coats. it is still just the first week of october. first weekend. let's get the word from chuck bell. >> chuck, we are getting a little taste of winter early. >> no kidding. yesterday, the high temperature 52. the coldest high for yesterday and today, so far 53 is all we have been able to muster. that ties the coldest high temperature on record for october 3rd as well. how unusual is it to be this cold this time of year? 52 to 53 degrees. we are about eight weeks ahead of schedule where the chill is concerned. 53 with mist and drizzle coming down. still a lot of locations up to the north hovering in the upper 40s now. germantown, gaithersburg, frederick, maryland in the 40s now. bay water temperatures are well up into the 70s. it's not helping the bayside neighborhoods too much. light areas of mist and drizzle and light showers around the area. it's going to continue. not a soggy, wet commute, just

in the traffic used their cell phones to take pictures and video of the twister. this video was taken by darlene around 5:30 yesterday afternoon. you can see debris swirling. no one was injured but the tornado still rattled nerves of people trapped in their cars. >> in new kent county, a tornado ripped through causing severe damage. power lines thrown to the ground and transformered left. 30 homes were among those buildings damaged. an elementary school was hit. students were there for after school activities and rushed to a safe zone. they felt debris blowing through, but all the students turned out to be okay. the roof was damaged. it had just been repaired after hurricane irene. >> it's been a sunny day after a wet morning. >> veronica johnson joins us now with the forecast. >> hey, barbara and pat. wet morning is right. maybe you got caught in it. every time the rain was ready to stop, it started up again with the sky opening up. in severe weather, but we had thunderstorms run through the area. we have a nice looking sky out there. puffy clouds against the brilliant blue. the temperature acr

in connection with her killing. news 4's pat collins joins us live with the latest on the story. >> reporter: we're on the scene. this is clarksburg road. if you look down the road to your right you can see where this happened. police are still down there collecting evidence, looking for clues. after two days of searching acres and acres of land today they found him, 11-year-old william mclain, his body found this morning in the woods about 50 yards off clarksburg road. they had hoped to find him alive but that was not to be. >> a lot of folks in the police department, probably all of us were hoping, we had that little shred of hope that we would find william, that maybe the suspect dropped him off somewhere and said, you know, keep william. that's what we were praying for. >> a key clue in this case, security video from a storage facility in germantown. william's mom, jane, had a unit there. security video shows william and his step father curtis lopez there on october 1st police believe a short time after that lopez killed william and then left his body near the woods. curtis lopez is the estr

handly. >> i'm pat lawson muse. >>> veronica johnson is in the storm center to tell us about a tornado. >> there's actually two areas down south, well south of d.c. that have been warned on for potential tornadoes. take a look at the radar and the radar loop. you can see two areas shaded in red. it's where we have the tornado warnings issued. southwest orange county until 4:15. then also, also for eastern louisa county and hanover. the north and northeast, quite a bit of lightning with it. golden, old bandana, goodall and oliver. we continue to see more warnings come out. another area here as we take a look at it. that area down south there, that is what's pulling to the north and northeast. oliver in the next 47 minutes. athens, in the next hour. it's louisa county thwarted spot spotsylvania and culpeper county is inside that tornado warning. the temperatures have been plenty, plenty warm. they are in the mid-60s. it's an area down to the south that's culpeper county until 4:30 and orange county. let's go ahead, if we can and take a look at the radar on the graphics 29 if we can put i
